PETITION THIS ARTIST.

"Artist" named Guillermo Habacuc Vargas picked up a dog save-able, help-able off the street and tied it to a pole in an art exhibit with food and water on the other side of the room, out of the dog's reach. It died slowly from hunger and starvation and this person had the NERVE to call it ART.

This is NOT what ART is ABOUT.

Petition this artist and keep him from taking other animals and making them suffer for his publicity.

Killing in the name of art has been up several times by now, and even if I hate it with a passion and say that there are other ways to show this problem and it's not right by any means, some of them have a point in that they're doing. Like he said himself, thousands of stray dogs starve and die of illness every year and nobody pays them a second thought. Bring it into the white cube and suddenly it's animal cruelty. If he wouldn't have done this nobody would've brought attention to this subject, not with the same efficiency. If this would have been done using a doll or something of the like it wouldn't have gotten any noticable attention at all. This is what makes such drastic methods so scary and effective at the same time.

Of course this brings other problems, like erasing the borders of killing which could lead to quite drastic and horrible consequences. That's why you still can't do this because it makes killing "okay", and that doing something illegal can be blamed on art.
The question of what art is and isn't will never be fully answered, because it all lies within each individual. Art is about communicating, if you visualize the subject and make it real for the viewer they will have a greater understanding of what you want to show. Art is also meant to make us think [most of the time], to ask ourselves questions and come to conclusions that will give us a greater understanding of the world and the things around us. This means that art, just like revolts and other "illegal" intents that have led to greater understanding through the centuries, is in fact "illegal" sometimes.

...I still feel terribly sorry for that poor dog. T__T

noc, noc. who's there? >D
You're right, but it still makes me angry.

Something like this happened not long ago with a little girl named Tajanay who was switched back and forth between foster parents and her abusive mother and (mother's) boyfriend. The Child Care Organization (Can't remember exactly what they're called) neglected the girl's situation and only reacted on the complaints and calls of witnesses of the abuse. Despite the protests of foster parents, they kept sending Tajanay back to her biological mother until she was finally beat to death. I know exactly what you mean by something drastic having to happen for something to change and I agree with you on it.

It's ignorant of me to say "Well he should have taken it to the ASPCA!"

I know what you mean... and it's hard for me to agree but I can't argue back. I own a cat who has been a victim of cruelty before I found her, so I'm sensitive to things like this and get easily riled up.

Lives of others are often in our hands. Every person that keeps silence is a criminaL AS WELL.
